Baldwin Defeats Thompson in U.S. Senate Race Submitted: 11/07/2012
MADISON - Wisconsin made history Tuesday night by electing the state's first female Senator and the country's first openly gay Senator.

Congresswoman Tammy Baldwin narrowly defeated former Wisconsin Governor Tommy Thompson 51 - 47 percent.

Baldwin told a crowd of supporters that she didn't run to make history, she ran to make a difference.

She takes over for Democrat Herb Kohl who is retiring.
