- This morning's severe storms caused damage and power outages across the area.
Lightning struck at least one home near Elcho. Kara Fisher was home at the time.
"It was like a huge light flash, and you could hear the trees crack, and the ground shook. We had just gotten a new metal roof put on, and you could hear that get hit," Fisher said.
The strike set off a small fire in the house. But it was put out quickly by Elcho Fire.
"Certainly if nobody had been home, it would have been a foregone conclusion when we arrived," Elcho Fire Chief Bob Jensen said. "By the time somebody noticed it, it would have been fully involved."
This lightning strike might not have been so random.
"We have a family history on my grandmother's side, the Olson side - they were actually on Ripley's Believe It or Not because my family has been hit by lightning many times," Fisher said. "I called my husband, I said 'the curse almost got someone again' - just saw the trees until the smoke started going."
