- Police are investigating the death of a Wausau man who was found dead with a crossbow bolt in his neck Monday.
50 year-old Steve Raskie's family found him at the bottom of a tree stand, according to the Marathon County Sherriff's Department.
Family members told police Raskie had gone hunting alone that day.
The Marathon County Sherriff’s Department believes he may have accidently shot himself.
The incident is still under investigation.
One of the responding DNR officers says crossbow accidents are unusual and reminds hunters to use caution when operating a riffle or crossbow.
"Treat every fire arm as if it is loaded. Always point your muzzle in a safe direction. Be sure of your target and beyond. Keep your finger off the trigger or trigger guard until you're ready to shoot," said DNR Warden Supervisor for Wisconsin River Team Korey Trowbridge.
