Tree Stand Safety Tips Submitted: 10/25/2012
TOMAHAWK - Every year tree stands can be one of the biggest dangers for hunters.

Dick Statton, from Statton's General Store says there's a few mistakes hunters constantly make.

One is putting up your stand alone. Because some of them can be difficult to set up, Statton says you'll do a better job if you have help.

One of the most dangerous things you can do is climb into your stand with your gear.

"If you're sneaking into an area where you know there's a big buck it's not real appealing to load your gun in your stand and make that additional noise. But although the temptation is there, it really isn't worth it to take that chance," says Statton.

Statton says to know your limits, and if you're not comfortable in the air don't rule out a good ground blind or stand.

If you do chose a tree stand make sure to wear a full safety harness.
