- The crazy weather in the Northwoods this morning set off plenty of lightning, and at least one local home had a strike.
A home on Hunting River Road just south of Elcho had lightning jump from a tree and start a fire in the house.
A person was home and called the fire department, who got the fire under control.
Elcho's fire chief said if no one was home, the house likely would have burned down.
So it could have been worse.
The woman at home has a family history of getting struck by lightning.
The severe weather this morning left damage in it's wake from strong winds as well.
This tree near Crescent Elementary school in Rhinelander snapped off near its base, and crashed down onto powerlines causing nearby streetlights and power to go out.
WPS Crews arrived shortly after to restore power to the neighborhood.
More that 5,600 customers of the utility are without power because of the storms.
Crews are working to make repairs.
The frequent lightning also left it's mark on Sutliff Avenue in Rhinelander.
One house lost its front rain gutter after a tree in the front yard was struck by lightning.
