Duffy, Swearingen Campaign in Rhinelander Submitted: 10/16/2012
RHINELANDER - While the presidential candidates were debating in New York, local politicians rallied support in Rhinelander.

Republican congressman Sean Duffy is running for re-election.

But this evening, he took time to support a political newcomer, 34th Assembly candidate Rob Swearingen.

"As a small business owner, Rob understands the importance of taking the foot of government off of the neck of the small business guy," Duffy said.

Swearingen is glad to have the support of a prominent federal elected official.

"Right from the top of the ticket down, right down to the 34th Assembly race, the Republicans are pretty well bonded together to get this job done, whether it's Washington, D.C. all the way down to the 34th Assembly District here in the Northwoods," Swearingen said.

Swearingen has seen common themes while talking to voters during his campaign.

"First of all, the mining issue is very big on the minds of everybody. Jobs, obviously, the economy, and just promotion of the Northwoods in general, whether it's tourism or trying to get industry further north so we can get those families sustaining jobs," he said.

"I look at him going to Madison as a great representative that has a great tool set to be an awesome representative for us in the Northland," Duffy said.
