- Back in 1989, Packer QB Aaron Rodgers was 5 years old, the price of gas was 97 cents, and it was the last time the Rhinelander football team was in the postseason. That all changed today. After a 23 year drought, the Hodags are in the playoffs.
This news comes days after the WIAA granted Rhinelander a temporary waiver to make the team eligible for this years postseason.
The Hodags had been banned from playoff play for 4 years after their voluntary withdrawal from the Wisconsin Valley Conference.
But after appealing, we granted eligibility..and now, are heading to the playoffs.
Here are the Northwoods postseason matchups.
In D1 Merrill will face La Crosse Central.
For D2 we have several teams including Rhinelander at Waupaca, Mosinee hosting Osceola, Medford taking on Onalaska and Antigo visiting West De Pere.
In D4 it's Northland Pines hosting ST. Croix Central. For D5 Crandon will be at Marathon. And D6 Laona Wabeno will be visiting Edgar.
