- What brings a community together for 20 years? In Three Lakes it's the best of the fall; Caramel apples, kettle corn- and pumpkins from the patch to the plate. Event organizer Cindy Starke remembers the first pumpkin festival...
"It was a terrible day like today- it rained. But the people came out and it just kind of grew from there."
Now over 100 booths sell crafts, an army of volunteers sell homemade treats. And all the proceeds go right back into the community
“We've given to the 8th graders to go to Washington DC. We've given to the soccer team bought them new uniforms one year. We've bought the 4-wheeler and all kinds of equipment for the fire department. So it goes for a little bit of everything for our town," said Starke, the President of the Three Lakes Fire Department Auxiliary.
This year they expect to raise around $10,000, and put the finishing touches on a brand new fire station on the west side of town.
Besides helping the community, everyone has their own reasons for coming to Pumpkin Fest.
8th graders Jordan, Joel, & Katelin say:
“Kettle Corn! And go to the gym and see all the crafts cause they're really cool.”
Starke says, "On a day like to today, we've got wonderful soups. We’ve got five different kinds of soups and we've got cookbooks for sale that have all the soups also."
