- Several Northwoods youngsters had their sights set for a buck. Deer was not all that was gained last weekend.
There was plenty of blaze orange in the woods last weekend for the Youth Deer Hunt.
Young hunters from 10-15 years old, had an opportunity to go out with a mentor and gain valuable hunting experience.
Families like the Fransons out of Rhinelander, took advantage of the program. Alayna and her family enjoyed seeing her success. She harvested a spiked two-point buck.
While the main goal of the weekend is to bag a deer...there are also many other benefits for the families.
The Wisconsin DNR believes the number of deer harvested will be similar to last year. About 5,000 deer were collected in 2011.
