ANTIGO, RHINELANDER, TOMAHAWK, MERRILL - Plenty of standout performances to choose from. Here are our four nominees for the Newswatch 12 Player of the Week.

In football last Friday, Antigo running back Jake Zabrowski had 22 carries for 121 yards and 3 touchdowns. The Red Robins retained the Bell for 6th straight year with a 32-7 victory over Rhinelander.

In girls tennis, Rhinelander captured the Great Northern Conference championship last week. The Hodag #1 doubles team of Beth Zenk and Kelsie Prahl took won their conference crown at last week's GNC tourney in Minocqua.


In cross country, Garrett Schmelling of Merrill won the boys race at the Merrill Invite over the weekend. He finished in 17 minutes, 3 seconds. The host Bluejays finished 2nd in the team competition.

Meanwhile in volleyball, Tomahawk swept Rhinelander in a GNC showdown last week in Rhinelander. Anna Nyberg led the Hatchets with 19 kills and with 14 digs.
