ONALASKA - The Rhinelander Rebels suffered their second straight defeat at the state legion baseball tournament on Tuesday, losing 5-3 to Menasha. The elimination game defeat ended the Rebels season at (20-7).
Rebels trailed by three in the bottom of the seventh. Rhinelander responded, as Alec Baumgartner scored on Joe Zuiker's double to make it 5-3. After a walk to Kyle Comer, and a Menasha pitching change, Nathan Schmidt grounded out to third for the final out.
Kyle Comer suffered the loss on the mound, pitching six innings allowing five runs. However only three of those runs were earned. It was Comer's final game in Rhinelander. He will play baseball for MN-Duluth.
Offensively, the Rebels had their chances, but left seven runners on base.
The Rebels fell into the elimination game, after losing to Holmen 5-1 on Monday. Rhinelander was making its second appearance in the state tournament. The Rebels won state back in 2010.
