RHINELANDER - A familiar face entering the race for Oneida County District Attorney. Former DA Michael Bloom is taking on a new role as Oneida County judge, so his job is up for grabs.

Assistant District Attorney Scott Moller has been a prosecutor in the Northwoods for 9 years. He's been in Oneida County for the last year, and this is also where he began his career in law enforcement.

Moller first walked the hallways of the Oneida County courthouse as an intern. He even had his first jury trial here. Moller says he always knew he wanted to be a prosecutor.

"What I really like about prosecution is you're not tied to the narrow interests of a client. Nothing against it, it's just what I like about prosecution is you have the opportunity and you have the duty to see that justice is done. To seek justice," says Moller.

"My hope would be that I would be seen as somebody with integrity that you can trust, and who's even handed. Not just looking for the maximum conviction, but someone who's looking for a just result for everyone, including the defendant," says Moller.

Moller says to seek justice for criminal defendants sometimes means helping them in ways other than locking them up.

He hopes his history shows his commitment to prosecution.

"I am a career prosecutor. When this election is over I will be a prosecutor either as Assistant District Attorney or as District Attorney. One way or another I will be a prosecutor," says Moller.

Moller says he's not sure what will happen in the DA's office between now and the election. Governor Walker could appoint an interim DA. For now, Moller and the other Assistant DA, Steven Michlig, divided the caseload between themselves and another special prosecutor for the time being.
