TOMAHAWK - A local Tavern League treasurer is thought to have embezzled thousands of dollars for personal expenses, and her husband, the president of the local League, has resigned in the fallout.
Rhonda Wiese of Tomahawk was the subject of an investigation by the Lincoln County Sheriff for taking more than $20,000 from the Tomahawk/Merrill Area Tavern League.
The case has now been handed over to the Lincoln County District Attorney.
Wiese was the Secretary/Treasurer of the local League, and her husband, Terry, was the President.
Terry Wiese resigned his office, and Rhonda Wiese has also been replaced.
Authorities looked into the case after other officers from the Tomahawk/Merrill Area Tavern League contacted the Sheriff's Office, reporting significant discrepancies in bookkeeping.
The Sheriff's Office completed a felony theft investigation last week and referred the case to the Lincoln County District Attorney.
The Tomahawk/Merrill Area Tavern League met Monday afternoon and named Paul Werner the new President and Deb Smith the new Secretary/Treasurer.
They declined our requests to comment further on the issue.
