No Losses in Three Lakes Wildfire Submitted: 04/06/2012
THREE LAKES - Just one day after Governor Walker visited Burnett County to review fire-fighting plans in northwestern Wisconsin, a one-acre wildfire in Three Lakes this afternoon kicked off Vilas County's spring fire season.

DNR staff spotted the fire from Monahan fire tower around 2:30. The cause is still under investigation.

No structures were lost and no one was hurt, but this serves as a warning to be careful where and when you burn now that spring fire season has begun.

"The most common cause is people. I'm not saying that's what caused it here, but most likely somebody started a fire here," says Jamie Remme, a forester and ranger with the Wisconsin DNR.

Firefighters responded with an air attack about fifteen minutes after it was spotted, as well as nine engines and a tractor plow from the DNR, Three Lakes and Eagle River fire departments.

Remme says people should buy burn permits and check in with the DNR by calling 1-888-WIS-BURN.
