- Students at James Williams Middle School, in Rhinelander, strap on their running shoes for a 3K run.
It's an active day for the students at James Williams Middle School, focused solely on promoting health and exercise in a fun and exciting way.
Once their shoes were tied tightly and all 200 runners were gathered together the annual 3K run was underway.
But before the students can participate in the run they must qualify in different events throughout the year.
It's a way for the students to prepare and build endurance for the run according to Bill Makris, P.E. teacher at James Williams Middle School.
"They just want to do their best, and they have their friends, and they are all trying to out do one another. It's a good, healthy, fun way to burn some energy and have some fun."
Yvonne Gardner enjoys running and an active lifestyle. "It's fun! It's something to do for free time, instead of just sitting at home doing nothing."
The active day continues into the afternoon for the students as they also compete in a tug of war event.
