Coach with cerebral palsy teaches kids basketball Submitted: 07/20/2008
RHINELANDER - Chris Engstrom is an assistant coach and team manager for the UW-Green Bay women's basketball team. Last week she hosted a camp in Rhinelander.
Says Chris Engstrom-"Basketball has been my passion for as long as I can remember."
The Rhinelander native is living with Quadriplegic Cerebral Palsy and isn't letting her disability keep her off the court.

In fact, No one knew coming in the coach running the camp was in a wheelchair.
"I think some of them especially the middle schoolers were quite suprised when I first walked in." said Chris. "I wanted to make sure that my knowledge and skills were tested and not my physical abilities."
"She knows what she's talking about." says Rhinelander senior Cassie Jerman. "She's running around on her wheelchair doing the best she can do."
Chris hopes to be a head coach one day.
Says Chris-"I think I'm best suited, because of my lack of demonstration skills, at the college level. I'm also happy to work at the high school or junior college level."
A head coaching job will have to wait until after she completes her Masters Degree in May of 2009. Then Chris hopes to be courtside teaching kids the game she loves best.
