McDonald's, Hershey's, and Pepsico Seeing Rise in Sales

RHINELANDER - McDonald's was one of several notable companies showing a profit in the second quarter of this year.
Gas prices didn't seem to stop people from hitting the drive-through.
The nation's largest fast-food chain says revenue rose four percent during that three-month period, compared to last year.
And the nation's largest candy-maker had a sweet bottom-line for the quarter.
Hershey says sales rose five percent compared to the same time last year.
Also showing a quarterly profit... snack and drink giant Pepsico.

RHINELANDER - Higher gas prices means fewer cars and r-v's are taking families to the beaches.
The travel industry association expects summer travel to drop one-point-five percent compared to last year.
That would be the first decline in four years.

Plastic Bag Ban to Begin in Los Angeles

RHINELANDER - The Los Angeles City Council voted Tuesday to ban plastic shopping bags from stores beginning july first, 2010.
Customers could bring their own bags, or buy paper or biodegradable ones.
The city estimates it uses more than two million plastic bags each year.

Starbucks Stores Still Closing

RHINELANDER - Some Starbucks customers are finding that last sip is getting cold.
The coffee giant has reaffirmed it will stick to its plan to close about 600 company-owned stores.
Including stores in Marshfield and Wisconsin Rapids as well as other Wisconsin stores.

- Sam's Club is trying to lure college kids to its warehouse stores by offering a special membership deal. College students can get a year-long membership for 40-dollars which is similar to the current Sam's individual membership.

Electornics Store Salespeople Providing False Information

RHINELANDER - Electronics store salespeople might not be keeping up with changing technology.
A new survey from J-D Power and Associates found salespeople recommended liquid crystal display tv's over plasma screens about three-fourths of the time.
